we have had 2 employees (they live together) call in sick this morning, they have visited the doctor and have scabies! Do we, as an organisation, need to do anything or notify anybody?

I agree - no, unless they are care workers and could have passed it to service users OR perhaps caught it from service users and therefore other care workers at risk. If so, would do the usual checks as per support agreement and contact with the service users medics

Scabies is not an illness, not sure this qualifies as "sick"!

http://www.hpa.org.uk/we...e/HPAweb_C/1194947413004 Might not be a reportable one..but it is an infection....information is on the HPA information on the link..bearing in mind the incubation period I would at the very least brace yourself for more absences......and you are a little close for comfort!!

It is not an infection but an INFESTATION as it consists of mites under the skin. Generally intimate contact is required, not normal at work except the health and care sector, but odd cases seem to buck this idea. I think general work contacts are unlikely to be an issue. Treatment days for affected people may necessitate time off for additional washing purposes after applying lotion overnight.
