Is there any point in being a member of something if you or your company no longer gets a benefit from it(BSC). Do other businessess see that you are a member and it looks good for your company?

Hi Lisa,
In retail it depends on who your customers are. If you have large national customers they will sometimes demand it as part of their own due dillagence or QA systems.

Basic membership from a company/organication to any safety organisation, such as British Safety Council or RoSPA does not at all mean that BSC or RoSPA has evaluated the safety performance and then agreed to the membership. All it signifies is that the organisation has subscribed to the membership that has defined benefits which in most cases include :-

a helpline
a members only suite of health & safety information
a monthly magazine
discounts on training and other products/services

At the most, it may signify that the member is motivated to improve safety performance--but that is all.

Please note that neither RoSPA nor BSC are accredited by any national accreditation body for their "Audit Services" that they offer.

Both are accredited for most of the training courses they offer.

It is a matter for the member/prospective member to judge whether they actually make use of the services on offer with the membership package and then make a value for money decision.
