HSE document HSG53 states very clearly that for use of half face disposable face masks we have to face fit test.
We have the argument that our guys only cut occasional concrete blocks surely we don't get anywhere near the exposure levels for dust during this work, we simply provide masks for them to choose whether to use them.

My thoughts are without air sampling how would we know and if we are that confident we are no where near exposure levels why provide them - but as we do provide them we should train people in correct use.
Also do people doing the simple bitrex tests need to be trained; Arco do a half day course is it required?

Has anyone got any experience of this type of training? Any advice would be helpful!

When we bought a selection of items from a well know RPE manufacturer, they offered me and a few colleagues face fit training FOC. Its worth asking your rep if they could arrange this.
