Can anyone recommend a training course that is recognised by IFE preferably in the North West area or as far as Birmingham that would suit a medium sized manufacturing site? Our insurance company insists that we have a competent person on site that has had training from an IFE approved trainer, there are so many courses out there I was wondering whether any members could help
We employ about 75 people, its is a 24/7 process, we are not a COMAH site, from my personal point of view the building and manufacturing process is low risk, stainless steel construction no flammable liquids or gas, the furnishings are all stainless steel tanks and pipework, heavily controlled through work permits including any hot work. We have a sprinkler system and the fire alarm is monitored 24/7 double knock system
We do have offices and a small laboratory too. Of course fire risk is possible in all industries but we don't appear to have any major issues just wondering what the best course to take is. Any help greatly appreciated

Mersey, whilst I agree that the ideal is to have a competent fire "person" on site, the requirement by insurers is, in my opinion, excessive.
If I was receiving that demand I would challenge it by either directly asking the person who made the demand or via my insurance broker for a full and justified explanation as to why they require such a measure. From the info you have provided it appears that they are on shaky ground. There are always alternative insurers at renewal time.
However, your search for appropriate training is to be applauded and I am sure that people on here will be able to make suitable recommendations. Fire risk management competence is a great skill to possess.

I would endorse David's comments.
I did my fire managers course with these:

Great course and great trainers. Just a happy customer, no commercial connection to them.
