Dear All
Can anyone confirm if the Crane Coordinator role has been replaced with the Crane/Lift Supervisor role as we seem to have a difference of opinion between different parties and would like to clear the matter up.
Also I am a little confused as it has been stated that the British Standard 7121 is over 8 years old and whilst it still refers to the coordinator role the term is no longer used and the catergory in no longer available (CPCS Card)
Many Thanks

Paul you are right there is no such category as crane co-ordinator on a CPCS or CSCS card.
Yes the Lift Supervisor could carry out that role and yes there is a BUT.
There will be times on multi crane sites when the Lift Supervisor might not have the kind of experience required especially when mixing Tower ,Crawler and Mobile cranes for the role.
This is becoming more frequent on many major sites now especially waste to energy.
It is and will be a management problem to ensure the Crane Cordinator duties are carried out by experienced people and not someone who may have Crane/Lift Supervisor on their card.
Various parts of BS7121 are being re written and it will be interesting to see what is said about the role.
Sorry not a definitive answer because it is a very grey area.
Ta Alex
