Good afternoon, I was asked in a social context if I had any knowledge of asbestos being an issue in portacabins. The aquaintance in question works for company in question have plans to renovate part of their building ( they really need to do this) which has at some time in the past had a portacabin of unknown provenance incorporated in it.
The company were advised by the building contractor that it would be full of asbestos and would required a "special survey and removal plan" this would of course be quite expensive but his firm could quote for it.
Has anyone had any experience of asbestos in portacabins or can offer any advice?
Cheers, annic

Do you mean an actual Portakabin as manufactured by the company of the same name?
If so, they still exist and I suggest you contact them.
If it is some sort of other prefab then a survey might have to be the way to go.

going back a long long time many portable cabins etc. e.g. easy assemble garages/sheds were made of or had asbestos within them however as said that was a very long time ago and such cabins were not really/usually seen as readily portable as such things are today in my experience - I know of one wooden cabin that has been on sites since the 1940's & its now in a nuclear power station and used daily
If in doubt get somebody in to give U a second opinion - where are is the cabin sited as perhaps somebody on this IOSH site who is in teh area may be able to help
