The latest u turn in first aid advice post suspension came from the HSE following a literature review and subsequent issue of a research report, following the earlier research report by Paul Seddon. It instructs any post suspension casualty to be treated with standard first aid protocols, i.e, if unconscious be laid supine or recovery position. Still quite a controversial subject amongst our rescue community. Harnesses have now been developed that deploy a fallen casualty automatically into a semi lying position, thus ruling out the position required for suspension "trauma" to occur. Latest research report also discourages the word trauma, and replaces it with syncope. Phil
