We could get the ball rolling with a question at PM's Question Time ? What has this government done to ensure small/medium construction companies take all necessary precautions to protect the lives of their employees and sub-contractors?

The problem lies with the clients ---- so until clients are properly managed by the enforcers and the courts we will get nowhere ---- in my personal opinion nothing has really changed with regards to clients from my first construction works in the late 60's to the present day! That said the majority of clients are private individuals where the HSE has no authority but where they do have authority the clients need enforcing noting that [so called] recessions do not help the HSE and smaller construction companies must do what they can to survive and best of luck to them I say

But Bob, in many cases clients do not understand the hazards of construction work, particularly working at height. They get fooled by contractors who say their staff will be working safely when in reality the work gets started and there may be nothing to prevent someone falling off a roof.
