Looking for peoples opinions about monthly temperature testing of Thermostatic Mixer Valves.
L8 states that we should be testing them on a sentinel basis of the hot water supply to the TMV
Our risk assessment company have recommended we check the temperatures of all three points (hot in, cold in and blended out) some of our properties have up to 40 TMV's in them. Which would mean 120 temperature checks for TMV's per month.
When questioned they said it was best practice and to ensure the TMV is working correctly, which I understand the logic of (hot water passing into cold or visa versa)
What are people thoughts?
ps - our risk assessment company do not carry out the temperature monitoring
Thanks in advance

My thoughts, but Im no expert, Im just raising my limited common sense opinion right now,
As far as I understand the termostatic mixing is to prevent scalding?
As such the risk of end point temperatures cold and hot respectively being above 20°C or below 50°C (insert correct limits for cold / hot as required - again im no expert) at or just before the point of mixing would still exist.
I would not think the mixing of tepid with loutewarm water would kill the legionella bacteria which may be proliferating in the individual pipework.
As such in a dead leg or faucet far from the source of hot/cold could still carry the risk of it gaining / loosing temperature, to the extent that bacteria could multiply and as such still require testing?
