Not sure if this has been asked before and I can't seem to easily find an answer to my question.
Can anyone tell me if a large organisation (e.g. a University), which has various smaller, self-contained sub-units (for example, say a stand-alone building/Institute/department) can seek 18001 accreditation for the sub-unit in it's own right, especially if the organisation as a whole (or in the main) is unlikely to be in a position to seek or obtain a successful outcome in relation to 18001 accreditation?

Companies operating over various sites can seek accreditation for a single site, so in theory a university should be able to go for accreditation for a department or building.

Thank you all very, very much for your replies. It would seem that this route could be possible which was what I was hoping to hear. Thank you :)
