Hi there, not sure if I have missed something but can someone please help? We currently have a CDMC who goes through the CPPs to ensure that they are fully developed by the Principal Contractor (although now I am not sure if we do this as a fail safe or because we have to), There is nothing in the draft documents to state that anyone, or more specifically the Principal Designer should check the CPP to ensure it is sufficiently developed, now I realise that we should appoint competent contractors but as I am sure you will recognise (unless you are a contractor) that invariably their paperwork is on the most, questionable. Or have I missed something? Thanks

Nope you havnt missed anything. It will be a "client" duty to ensure CPP is "drawn up" by contractor (or PC) prior to construction works commencing and thats all. Nothing mentioned in the regs about reviewing it or advisiing as to its suitability.

Yes you have, regulation 4 (6) A client must take reasonable steps to ensure that: (b) the principal contractor complies with any other principal contractor duties in regulations 12 to 14.

With respect, it's a moot point. The client is to ensure a CPP is prepared by the PC. Nothing in the regulations states the client 'approves' the CPP, but normal practice is it is reviewed and where necessary is commented on. Previously this may have been done by the CDM-C as per CDM 2007.
