We are an education premises and we conduct monthly visual checks of our fire extinguishers however they are constantly being tampered with, we have placed extinguisher covers over a large number of extinguishers but often find the plastic tags get pulled although the pin is still securely in place and there is no obvious signs the extinguisher has been tampered with. The extinguishers are serviced annually by a competent provider in line with the BS 5306 guidance however, if a tag has been broken do we need to call out the service maintenance provider just to replace the tag or can we do this ourselves? The extinguishers are fitted with gauges so we can check the pressure gauge.

We would face the same issue. We retag after checking pressure gauge and weight. we can then be satisified that the extinguisher has not been set off.

Thanks Kevkel, Is there any charts or any guidance for checking the weights of extinguishers. Do any other education premises or academies do this themselves?
