'Interesting take' is a bit of an understatement leadbelly. I was shocked to read this article. The Bradford fire is one of the worst things I ever sat and watched LIVE on TV.
John
(the two other worst things I ever watched LIVE were the Heysel Stadium crush and the Hillsborough disaster)

As with Hillsborough, it seems apparent that those in Authority were aware of the hazard but did nothing to prohibit or remedy the situation.
Otherwise, I find the thinly veiled accusation that someone would choose to set a fire for insurance purposes on a match day rather ridiculous.

I'm with you Ron H. I don't even want to think that someone would come up with that sort of plan.

To add to what Ron said as with Hillsborough there may not have been an adequate investigation at the time.
It may have been coincidence and it may not have been.
I wonder if the Coroner was aware of the previous fires?

Fire safety - may not have been an adequate investigation?
There was adequate time for the Prime Minister of the time to attend the site the very next day and there was adequate time for any conversation held with that said Prime Minister to be omitted from any formal minutes.
There was adequate time for lies to be formulated from before 3pm on that and continue for 25years so to this day they still stick.
There was adequate time for a lot of things other than the truth.
I'll leave it at that with a closing note that 26 years ago today 96 football simply went to watch a game of football and never went home and we now know the truth. RIP 96

I called it an 'interesting take' because there seems to be no proof, other than a long history of fires in premises owned by the same person, none of which appear to have been regarded as suspicious.
As has been said above, I cannot believe that anyone would put so many lives at risk in pursuit of an insurance payout.
I'm sorry if my terminology offended you.

I wasn't offended by your comment LB, I was just shocked at what the newspaper article was suggesting which seems more serious than interesting.

But to set the fire during the match would be less suspicious than in the middle of the night.....
If there had been suspicious circumstances with the previous 7 fires I would have expected insurance companies to have spotted it.

I might not want to believe anyone could be that evil.... But there have been too many cover ups exposed recently for me to dismiss the clear allegation in this issue out of hand.
I will be buying a copy of the book and trying to make up my own mind on the basis of the information presented - which is sure to be more detailed than the newspaper gives.
Truly horrible thought.
