Can anyone help?
Can anyone advise what regulations, guidance and/or approved codes of practice are used in Russia and Brazil for the management of DSE?
Many thanks,
Jon

Well that was massively helpful to a new forum user.
Jon, in answer to your question
In Brazil, the provisions for DSE are set out in Regulatory Norm 17 (NR-17) on Ergonomics.
DSE must comply with the following:
• the screen can be adjusted to the lighting conditions at the workplace;
• the keyboard can be independently moved, allowing the employee to adjust it to the work tasks;
• the screen, the keyboard and the document support are arranged at equal distances from eye-screen, eye-keyboard and eye-document support;
• the work surface is adjustable in height.
Data entry should not exceed 5 hours per day, and the rest of the working hours must be spent with other activities. For every 50 minutes of data entry, a break of at least 10 minutes must be given which is not deducted from normal working hours.
Ordinance 9/2007 of 30 March 2007 established specific ergonomics rules for call centers.
In Russia the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Inspection organization use GOST 21552-84 to check compliance with the health and safety requirements associated with the use of electronic equipment:
Sanitary Rules and Norms (SanPiN 2.2.2./2.4.1340-03)approved by Decree of the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation of 3 June 2003 No118 establishes that working area for a single DSE user with flat monitors must not be less than - 4.5 m2. Pregnant women must be transferred to jobs where use of DSE is not required or limited (no more than 3 hours per working shift).

Hi BLEVE,
Haven't heard that acronym for a while-fortunately none reported recently as far as I'm aware.
I thought your post was in the best traditions of the forums and so different to the previous one.
I had checked the ILO NATLEX [national legislation] database as my first port of call but it didn't cover the Brazilian NR you suggested -many others covered of course.
This led me to wondering which source you used as there are regular enquiries about foreign legislation on these forums so if you would like to share this please respond and we will all be grateful.
Best regards
Mike

I also use ILO but tend to go directly to national source where possible.
for instance http://portal.mte.gov.br
& http://portal.mte.gov.br...2BEFBAD7064803/nr_17.pdf
Most Brazilian law promulgates ILO convention in any case.
From a global perspective, the law is either covered by a labour law act or specific regulatory requirements. Then things get further complicated when looking at Federal V's state requirements.

Hi Bleve,
Thanks for that. I do also use national and EU stuff when reasonably accessible. Sweden is great as they provide info in English too. Imagine us doing so!
I used to work for the ILO so have a great deal of faith in its values and standards. It's encyclopedia on OHS is remarkably good
However there can be major political problems when there are deficiencies in the host countries legislation or performance and of course if trade unions are banned or similar limitations on the workers side.
As to federal or states, Australia is a case in point, although I believe it now has a countrywide OHS law which even defines reasonably practicable -lengthily. Not sure if it is being enforced yet and just how it will be approached by each state given that Queensland is 40 years behind-used to work there!
Your Portuguese OK? Loved the legal classification of Utterances
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike
Am familiar and up to speed with EHS legislation in approx. 80 countries across the globe. If you ever need information/clarification beyond ILO, give me a shout.
