I have been made aware that a member of staff has been given permission to dismantle and take away a smallish UPVC conservatory that is currently attached to one of our buildings. They are expected to take it down and remove it in their own time at their own expense etc. I am, needless to say, uneasy with the idea and cross that permission has been given in the first place, especially since the building will be occupied at the time. Should I be concerned? What happens in the event of an accident/injury to the staff member or a building occupant? A sanity check would be most welcome.

Well I would be too...

This is still going to come under CDM so you are going to need all the goodies that come with it... Even if it is a single contractor in their own time jobbie.

I would listen to Ashley as all things on a business site are connected to its business in 1 way or another

If they can do things over a weekend when the business is closed it can reduce risk but things still need to be managed e.g. make sure that the fire alarm is not connected to the conservatory
