Does LOLER cover harnesses in respect of thorough examination?

My understanding is that it comes under PUWER. Our insurance Engineer lists it under PUWER on the reports and not LOLER and inspects every six months with the lifting equipment.

PUWER they are not lifting equipment or accessories.
We check every time they are used and also have a sheet for monthly inspections, then we get them independently inspected every 6 months along with our cranes and lifting equipment.

People are classed as loads, so harnesses before and after every use, and every 6 months by a competent person who issues a very of thorough examination. Ropes, karabiners, slings and harnesses.

As with all things LOLER, it's all about intended use.
If harness is to be used as part of rope access/work positioning then follow HeO2 comments, otherwise if just part of arrest/restraint follow earlier posters.

I have always used the following:
Harnesses and fall arrest equipment = PUWER (not designed to lift) Slings, as used for lifting patients in healthcare = LOWLER (designed to lift)

I always find that quite ironic, that rope access kit will have a person of around 100Kg loading the equipment in a controlled fashion, and is subject to strict LOLER inspection. Fall arrest kit, has the same 100Kg person, dynamically loading the equipment if it is deployed, resulting in theoretical massive forces, dependant on fall factor etc. yet is subject to lesser standards?? Go figure
