Can anyone help? I have to put some roof trusses on a garage roof after the previous roof was burnt off. Historically we have got the trusses onto the roof via a mobile crane, which I want to keep doing, however my boss wants to bring the cost down.
I have looked at doing it manually by pivoting them onto the scaffold with several operatives but am trying to avoid that as I don't believe the operatives will follow the method correctly. (and potentially there won't be enough people sent to site in the first place!!)
I have also started looking at scaffold hoists to try and mitigate an element of manual handling but am not currently convinced this is a suitable method until I go and see the site and get weights of trusses etc etc.
Can anyone suggest a method / product that I could look into?

Hello Wombleflow
Have dealt with this scenario on numerous occasions in the past.
Firstly I do see were your boss is coming from as Mobile Cranes are very expensive to hire even for a day.
You do not mention the height of the scaffold / roof height or the size of the trusses etc.
However do try to avoid the Manual Handling of these trusses as they can be awkward to handle, particularly passing them up on the outside of the scaffold. What I implemented was the introduction of a Scaffold Loading Bay that was Tied into the Scaffold then used a Telehandler to transport the trusses neither onto the Loading Bay itself if its was big enough or a across the Loading Bay handrails that can be easily handled by operatives. In regards to Scaffold Hoists, I imagine you are suggesting Scaffold Ginny Wheels. Remember their Safe Working Load is kg so this may not be ideal.

Thanks AllanFS and fiesta. Your advice is much appreciated. I will look into both of these and come up with a plan.
