Oil fired burners engineers carry various parts on vans to be repaired, how should oily rags that are used when transporting equipment for repair be disposed of?

As hazardous waste.

However you can get them cleaned, but it will cost. There are company's that will provide the rags and they then come and collect wash and return ( Normally two sets as one is in the wash )

As Chris says.

We use a company who deliver, clean and return our oily rags. It is cheaper in the long run than disposing of rags as hazardous waste.

PS The Safety Data sheet for the oil will tell you the EWC code ( don't forget if it has a little "*" after it, it is Hazardous waste.
