I think ive seem most of the Hse docs re roll cages and nowhere is it even contemplated putting a roll cage on its side , loading ( in this case with waste cardboard) and then being lifted. Has anyone ever come across this practice

I assume your referring to the supermarket practice of doing this when stocking the shelves (i've seen this in Tesco a few times).
The only reason I can imagine them doing this is that most roll cages have doors on the front so putting it on its side would make it easier to fill than chucking the cardboard in the top when it is up-right. Again just a guess and quite how they safely lift it back up I don't know!

I don't think that these are designed to be loaded on their side! As previous post's have said, roll cages have doors that can be opened to load, or the cardboard can be loaded from the top.
I have in the past lifted a loaded one upright (after an unintentional fall) and they can be difficult to get upright as the wheels have to be locked/choked. It sounds like bad practice and a bad idea if its normal practice.
Is the card loaded in just for transportation to go to a compactor and crushed, or does the card have to be 'packed in' and then removed from the site?
