We have a contractor who is going to do gutter repairs from a MEWP but if that is not possible they will access the roof and use the man safe system installed. This system does not have an in date inspection certificate but they have offered to do this prior to use which raises my eyebrow slightly. What competencies, qualifications and association affiliations would you expect to see from someone who said they were competent to inspect such a system?

Never heard of a professional body/ trade association or even relevant qualification for this. Possibly IRATA may be able to assist. For testing purposes I would advise against using anyone who isnt an accredited installer of similair types of systems.

Apologies. I meant to say approved installer. By a manufacturer of similair systems.

I believe the approved companies use specialised equipment to test these which can use a prescribed force on them to test them as safe.

This may be of some limited assistance... http://www.wahsa.org.uk/...on-of-anchor-devices.pdf Although it largely serves to make the point that there is no specific standard of training.
