Hi All, Please could someone point me in the direction of some good guidance concerning fire H&S considerations in relation to the above, i.e. typical fire precautions which should be in place, segregation of pedestrians from traffic routes, lighting, security, disabled access etc. The car park will be for staff use only (no public access). I take it the change of use of the building and new layout etc would need to be approved via the Local Authority Building Control? thanks

More info required. Is the building joined onto another (occupied) building? My first thought was a vehicle fire is a new fire risk. If joined onto another building, what about fire separation/spread of fire to a connected building?

My initial thoughts are: Fire safety - means of escape, separation & firefighting equipment (Fire risk assessment) Petroleum - intercepts on drains etc? Ventilation of exhaust fumes Most certainly a building control matter

The building in question Is a stand alone car park which not connected to or close to neighbouring buildings. The car park is unstaffed. My view is that in view of this the required DEEE assessment will be quite simple in scope and will be based upon the ventilation/air management system in place. I'd appreciate any views on this.

I suspect the biggest issue may be insurance... The value of total loss will obviously be much higher and the risk of initiation in unoccupied car parks is known to be significant. Your insurers will require substantially increased premium to cover the greater risk!
