Hi, I'm new and would like some advice. I wonder if someone can give me a definitive answer. Can I Site Manager who has SMSTS sign a scaffold tag for a single lift scaffold? The Manager has lots of skills and site experience. Or does he have to be PASMA? Thanks Joe

Could you confirm whether the scaffold in question is tube and clip scaffolding or an aluminium tower?

Cheers Joe. Pasma is NOTHING to do with tube and clip scaffold mate. Having a Pasma card will not give you ANY authority regarding tube and clip scaffolding. It's for Aluminium Towers ONLY. You say the site manager has lots of skills and site experience. I would suggest he needs to have specific knowledge of tube and clip scaffolding to sign off a scaff tag. There is a two day scaffold inspection course that might be handy for him. Here is an example. http://www.citb.co.uk/tr...on-training-scheme-sits/ Just make sure he is competent if he is putting his name/signature to anything.

A 3 day basic scaffold inspection course, like the one linked above will technically make you qualified to inspect a basic Tube & Fitting scaffold. (It Used to be 2 days but was recently extended to 3 days to cover TG20:13) Most people, myself included, would argue that a scaffolder should inspect a scaffold. A scaffolder does not actually require a BSI or ASI card to inspect but most company's will prefer and ask for it just for added proof of training and competence. Although if they are qualified to erect a scaffold they are qualified to inspect it. Basically, yes you could do a 3 day course, but I would suggest getting a scaffolder to do it or get an independent scaffold inspection for a more honest report.

take the advice given by frank and adam SMSTS does not in any way make a site manager competent to undertake work irrespective of what the work is - its a generalist base knowledge area of H&S not a trade qualification best of luck

Thank you everyone for your comments. I will get the firm who erected it to carryout the weekly inspections. Regards Joe
