We have an office which does not meet the 11 cubic metres specified by the HSE. The office is not cramped and some of the staff work from home regularly, have meetings elsewhere etc. Does anyone have any experience of this situation?

Yes, everyday! Sometimes my car is the office. I tell managers they have 3 choices - move to larger offices; sack a few staff or make the best of it. Provided evacuation isn't compromised people generally adapt. It's all about planning and trying to ensure a new building has the capacity to expand the workforce. The same applies to "hot desk" policies; which in reality are "not enough desks" policies. Ian

Yes, Dealing with a number of them at the moment. But people dont like change so it is often difficult to come up with a reasonable and compromised solution. As Ian A-H has siad, if people are not making an issue out of it and it is not affecting the overall safety of the place then you might be just as well to accept it and plan change when you can. Thanks. I met with the girl yesterday and it turns out it is more of a 'I am struggling to concentrate' issue. We agreed that we would sit down with the rest of the team and look at ways in which we can improve the situation, such as: Staggering work from home days Insisting on meetings being taken to a meeting room 'Quiet' times.
