Hi all
I have a client who has asked for advice as a supplier of a bespoke accessory tool. They have developed a T-Piece that will fit to an existing tool to loosen/tighten a valve beneath a manhole cover. The T-piece is approximately 1.5-2m x 1m and will allow the operator to use this from above ground.

They have indicated the safe working methods and torque pressure (150-200Nm), but I was wondering if they have to consider CE Marking and Declaration of Conformity documentation as per European Directives?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Regards

In my opinion, yes. It will be work equipment. Having spent over 30 years in the water industry I have investigated a number of accidents involving new or innovative valve keys / operating devices which have made claims of safer lifting / turning/ operation.

I know that many managers in that industry have become very sceptical of claims for such equipment. Without recognised accreditation for the device described it may be a hard sell.
