I recently carried out an Audit in which concern was raised over the lack of a light on a grinding wheel, the issue being having a light on the wheel would stop reflection from overhead lights reflecting in the glass guards (or reduce the effect). We actually have a smaller grinding wheel for fine work which has a light on it. My problem is that we don't own the building or machinery within it and the managing company won't fit a light. My argument is a)having a light fitted to another is a precedence and b) Foreseeability - if an accident were to occur when using the said grinding wheel due to glare/lack of light on the operating piece then we should have done something about it. c) We are a training establishment and as such should be setting the highest possible standards. After opinions, my grinding expert assures that lights are not mandatory on grinding wheels.
