Hello Guys
Are there any known risks involved with a crane driver working in a permanent crane in close proximity to a ground radar?
See further info below;
The distance between crane mast and the radar would ne 76m, The distance from the end of crane jib to the radar would be 16m Max. the length of the jib from the mast of the crane will be 60m. The max height of crane will not exceed 47m OD The crane will be a flat top crane.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Regards
Kofi

Yes there is a massive chance that the person could be irradiated damaging there soft tissue from his eyes to an old saying Radhaz is a Dadhaz.
You must take a Radhaz out when working near any Radar transmitters, depending on what the transmitter power is depends on the safe distance something like a low power navigational radar the safe distance could be as low as a couple of meters, if its a high power long range radar (which this probably is) it could be as far as a mile, Then if its a directing phased array it will depend on were its pointing there are so many parameters. Most high power radars infact 99.9% of the time will need shutting down so you will need to consult with the owners, To put it in context a pencil point transmitting radar can put out 500.000w of energy a microwave oven operating near the same frequency band cooks a pie at 600w. You cannot see it but transmitting radio waves can kill so you need professional advice

If it is high power it will be mounted up high....or have an exclusion zone clearly marked.
If it is a ground-scanning radar within an airport it will be either 50 or 200 watts...
It will be X-band....
Power decreases very rapidly as distance increases.....the inverse square law.... intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source of radiation.
I would have a word with the operator of the radar..............so should you.
