I currently working for a company that have overhead cranes that operate on a track.
Is it a legal requirement to have an audible alarm when the crane is moving?
I have one that has an audible alarm and one that doesn't. Thanks Gill

There is no absolute requirement for an audible alarm, and the advice is unclear.

For example, BS 7121- 1 (Use of cranes) at 16.2.1 quotes " Before any crane is moved along its track)s) a warning should be given to all personnel who might be endangered. A warning bell or klaxon may be fitted for this puropse."

The HSE guidance leaflet PM55; Safe working with overhead gantry cranes states "use audible warnings when necessary(during operation)."

I suppose that they are not trying to be too prescriptive for situations where few, if any employees not engaged in lifting activities may be working in the vicinity.
