I'm looking for some studies about recommended heights above 1100mm - i.e to prevent people sitting on them, to prevent people leaning over them etc.

Can't say I've heard of any. In some places, the required height isn't even up as far as the 1100mm of UK Building regs.
For example, I believe Australia is 1000mm and in the US it would depend on the State, but I've seen reference to anything between 32" to 42" (812 - 1066mm) on various US Building codes.

Be interesting to see if anyone knows of anything.
