Alas this is often the case.

The irritation is often more that I only want to check a couple of line, rather than the whole document.

Or if you could be a wee bit more specific, some kind soul with access to the Standard might be able to p.m. you with the answer you need.....................

Should all else fail, Colleges and University Libraries often have reference copies you can direct access for free.

Join your local library.

Mine has online access to BSOnline through a shared login (or at least it did before Austerity!) There are limits on use and you may not be able to print, but as a reference it's invaluable (and free)
