If an employee completes a full shift of normal duties following an alleged accident the day before and then drops of work due to an injury is this still reportable under RIDDOR? My feeling is that it shouldn't be as they have returned to work and completed a full shift.

It doesn't matter whether they have completed a shift or not. The regulation doesn't require them to be off sick immediately after the incident. If they are off for seven or more days not counting the day of the accident, because of an incident arising out of work then it is reportable,
