Good luck with your job search.

I've been applying for positions since August 2011. I'm still going, so don't give up just yet.

Maybe it would be an idea to ask someone on here to have a look at your C.V. Maybe you could change a few things/highlight your key skills or just re-jig it.
When you've worked for a number of years it's difficult to keep a C.V. to 2 pages, but do try to do this as the average person spends 6-10 seconds scanning a C.V. so you have to make your stand out.

Whatever your do, make sure your C.V is free from errors and it's been proof read. Don'' rely on your office suite to do it for you.

Have a look at your CV and covering letter- is it generic or tailored to Health and Safety? Even if you don't have much of a safety background you can draw skills you have picked up in other roles an how they cater to health and safety. I tailored my cv and letter of application in late January of this year and had more call backs and interviews than I had had in the past 2 1/2 years- I was offered my current role on March 19th.

There are some really good Application letter templates online which give you a general idea and then allow you to complete with your details and experiences etc. What kind of role are you looking for?

Its a while ago now but my job hunt took me a good 2 years.
I did have the luxury of a job whilst I was doing it however

I noticed (and others say the same):
For every 10 applications you get called for one interview (don't take it personally that at least 6 will not even reply).
For every 10 interviews you will get one job offer (I said thanks, but no thanks to 3)
and like buses the offers all come along at the same time.

I have to agree with tailoring your CV and covering letter but not just for H&S, but for every role you apply for.

A good recruiter can spot a generic CV and letter at a thousand paces and it will not get past the first sift. By taking the time to target your CV and letter you will be ahead of at least 50% of the applicants.

What Nikiki-Napo said about the 6 second scan is about right. The reader have made a decision within that time to either bin you or look at the CV in more detail.

the very best of luck

Dave

Totally agree, I only mentioned the health and safety bit due to it being on a health and safety forum, I have helped my partner do the same working in the security industry, it is something that can be transferred across all fields.
