Hi All, Following a fire risk assessment and consultation with insurer's. A new temporary storage building onsite has been deemed low risk and fire detection is not required. We have some RF 10yr alarms that can be interconnected which could be used in the building as increased protection. However these are domestic units and it is a commercial premises. Would it be incorrect to go over and above findings/advice and install these. Or should I leave without?. Trying to be conscientious and "over and above" but don't want to go against any BS regs. Thanks in advance

Why carry out the fire risk assessment in the first place if your not going to listen to your own findings. If you assessed something as not needed it, why apply it anyway? your just creating extra work for yourself which if your assessment has been done correctly isn't justified or reasonable. Not knowing what your storing in this new unit, or duration of storage, environment around it etc i cannot comment further but i find it weird people assess things to ignore their own assessments.

Is fire detection required (for life safety) or not? If it is, then a BS5839-1 (commercial) system should be considered on most occasions, although for a 'temporary' storage building, a hard wired domestic detector (BS5839-6) might be suitable depending on whats being stored, the layout and the definition of the term 'temporary'. But in the main, as Zaillen says - apply the findings of your FRA (in this case, AFD not required) and you can't go far wrong
