Hello, I would welcome colleagues thoughts on the following:
An employee who lives on an employers site is suspected of sadly taking there own life outside working hours. My question is whether this is RIDDOR. While it was outside working hours the employee was a recovering alcoholic and had some personal issues. He had returned from holiday and had started drinking.
The employers policy is strict on zero tolerance to alcohol and he had been asked to leave employment.
Between him being asked to leave and actually leaving hehe is suspected of taking his own life. The police are currently on site as would be expected, and the employer is liaising with them.
Depending on the police outcome, in the short term I believe this is not RIDDOR but welcome people's thoughts
Many thanks

Firstly, I am sorry to hear of your loss. I have dealt with a similar situation in the past and the effect can be very deep and long lasting on a organisation. To answer your question directly, suicides are explicitly excluded from RIDDOR, please see the link below. http://www.hse.gov.uk/ri...reportable-incidents.htm

As sad as the situation is, it is not RIDDOR

A tragic situation, no doubt.
Could you perhaps say why you thought it MIGHT be reportable?
