Have my PR tomorrow and to say I'm nervous is an understatement. Right now id rather have a root canal filling.
I've revised on what I can, read through what I think and reflected on my career but still feel like I'm venturing into the unknown.
Any tips, advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Don't fudge - they are your peers and they know if you don't know. If you don't know something they ask like, for example, "what is the period between thorough examinations for lifting equipment" and you don't remember, then fill in with "I'm not 100% sure but I would be able to find out by checking the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations". As long as you know where to find the information I don't think they expect you to be a walking encyclopaedia.

You are expected to be able to research.
That might include looking around the forum for the replies to the umpteen people who have asked the same question before ;-)
Don't worry the peers are understanding people they know what you are going through.
They will do all they can to help you "pass".
Like Hillary says, they will spot a con artist a mile off - so just be honest.

I had my peer interview last week and thankfully I was successful.
Read up on the IOSH Code of Conduct as you will be asked about it. The Code of Conduct is divided into 4 sections namely; Integrity, Competence, Respect and Service. Give examples of how YOU will apply this.

In the past I have had root canal and peer review.
I have another root canal on Thursday. I would rather have another peer review.

Hi, easy to say now but really don't worry, it’s what it says it is a ‘peer review’ so these guys are the same as you and there is no reason to think they have more knowledge than you do. I was worried beforehand and it really was fine at the time, it was about a year ago now but I remember them saying at the start that if they need more info then they will push for addition answers and try and help you along through the process. I did the presentation then went through the questions and to be honest I don’t think they asked any questions! The areas I ( think I remember!) going into some detail were on Risk Assessment, Incident Investigation and proactive and reactive safety as well as a bit on mgmt. systems but again fairly easy going. Really the point is that if you know your stuff then you won’t have an issue, and remember it’s a ‘peer’ review process! Also read the code of conduct will get asked about that. Other than that’s its everyday stuff, they will want you to succeed!

I had my peer review last year and I was really nervous, I turned up looking petrified, the IOSH representative sat me down with a cup of tea, and let me know that I had 3 people interviewing me and another who was observing. That didn’t help calm my nerves at all.
However I entered the room and everybody introduced themselves, they could see how nervous I was and were really good about it, they just told me to relax and not to worry and to take my time. I got through the interview and was somehow calm throughout, if I didn’t understand a question they would ask me in a different way. They have all been through the same process and know what we are going through.
Just be calm, answer all the questions and most importantly give examples of how you implemented the questions being asked in your own work place.

Congratulations. One of my team also had his peer review this week and was successful. Good to see more people progressing to Chartered Status!
