Hi all,
At my place of work we have a member of staff that is profoundly deaf; i am updating my fire risk assessment to suit the needs of this individual and looking at purchasing a device which he can have attached to himself that in the event of the fire alarm being activated in his area this will 'Vibrate'.
Does anyone have any links as to what to buy, or where to buy from?
I was hoping a vibrating watch would be sufficiant, i have no experience in this and before i google it, i was hoping someone may have a good link of a company that i could contact to suit the needs.
We do have flashing beacons in the work area, but again, i am looking at ensuring where ever this person in the building is, they have the early warning of a fire alarm. They do work closely with other staff and staff are aware of his needs, but again, if they are separated, i would prefer him to know about a fire alarm.
thanks in advance
G

My first port of call would be to speak to either the manufacturers or installer of your current alarm system as you will need to ensure that whatever type of device you select it is compatible with your current system.

The general rule when considering evacuating those with hearing impairments is to ensure where possible, peer assistance. This would take the form of colleagues informing him when the alarm has activated. Perhaps a particular hand signal as agreed with the effected persons
You say there are beacons, but to save cash from blanketing the workplace in beacons, you might want to consider areas in the workplace where this chap may be alone and ensure beacons are installed in these locations (usually toilets etc).
Some fire detection system can accommodate a changed detector head to incorporate a beacon within the head - again, this may be a more cost effective methodology than multiple new beacon units
Good luck

Hello all,
Appreciate the feedback - DaveD, if you have any links for this product i would appreciate it, google is spinning my head around at the moment.
Fscott, advice noted thanks
Mssy, i have updated parts of the system and replaced sounders with multi ability (sounder and flashing beacon where i find appropriate); thanks for this.
Maybe a little overkill but was just looking to see if there were any portable devices that a person could wearto alert them.
