Does any one have any contacts or advice with regards to working with children and young people with complex additional support needs, particularly autistic spectrum disorder?

The National Autistic Society would probably give you better, more meaningful information than an OSH site.
There is loads of information out there on autistm related sites

Thanks, have used the NAS site previously, and it does have a lot of really useful information. however, at this present time, we are concerned with the safety of staff working with these children and young people.

OK, fair enough.
Personally, I prefer to be guided by those who specialise in understanding "these children..." and acknowledge that by definition the Specturm part means that no two children are the same.
That's just me though. I still wouldn't take advice on case work from a H & S bod

In normal circumstances, I would go straight to NAS it's a fair comment. But this is one that require specialists in all fields.

My son is a specialist teacher in this area and all the organisations he has worked for have a full and proper system in place. Beyond being a teacher (and previously an assistant) he is fully trained in all aspects. He now works with younger kids but when he worked with young adults his body rarely free of bite marks and bruises. I know he is my son, but my admiration for him and his colleagues knows no bounds.
Its highly specialised work and should be left to the experts.
