Hi Can anyone help please - urgently? We are considering changing a system we have at present which involves moving pieces of equipment automatically in and out of the machine - one in one side and the second out of the other side. We are considering changing this from the current automated system to a semi manual one where the operator moves the equipment using a pendant control. My question is what is deemed a 'safe' speed for this piece of equipment to move at? What is walking speed? etc etc. Anyone got any instant advice they can offer please? Cheers Stuart

Assuming the current automatic system is fully guarded to current standards, what you propose is a retrograde step and you may come to regret incorporation of a human factors element into your safety controls.
I recommend you proceed with caution and involve a specialist in machine guarding. If you are members of EEF, they used to provide such a service; not sure if they still do.
feel free to contact me, off forum, for further support.
