I could be being cynical but this looks like a favour for those Tory financials backers who are busy fitting out basement pools in their Chelsea pads.

Whilst I have been a strong critic of the current CDM Regulations, I do not believe there is a much of a problem for large construction projects like house building. Where there is a problem with bureaucracy is with small refurbishment, repairs and maintenance work.

As someone who has just renovated a dangerous (caused by council contractors in the previous 3 years before I bought it) and uninhabitable house into a nice dwelling, I'd have welcomed some VAT relief (like new builds)

From the first link at #1
"This review will give housebuilders and smaller construction businesses a powerful voice as part of our £10 billion deregulation drive."
Can someone explain that one to me please?
Where does that figure come from? Who is expected to realise a saving? It certainly won't be the purchaser!
Rhetoric and Nonsense.

When you go to the https://cutting-red-tape...e.gov.uk/house-building/ site, the only comment that I can find regarding CDM is the following: "I believe the current state of the CDM regulations to be sufficient to cover both my staff and the public’s safety and well-being, whilst it has already cut a lot of the red tape, I do not believe anything can be gained from any further revision to these regs". ..... however planning comes up 36 times, Building reg, control and inspection 9 times and environmental regulations come up twice.

No doubt "red tape" involves current checks and balances on building on recognised flood plains...............typical short-sighted Central Government thinking.
