A works minibus broke down and the driver called the emergency services for assistance as it was in a dangerous position on a major arterial route. Police arrived and one jumped into the driver's seat to try and bump start while the employed driver pushed.
Employed driver sustained injury (strains) to both thighs and tops of legs.
Is this reported as an accident at work or what? - I am unclear - obviously not an RTA so can't go down that route.
Needless to say the recommendations from the investigation have included that breakdown assistance be immediately actioned (which in fact was in place) but the driver thought the situation dangerous (and acted as stated above). 2nd recommendation: evacuate all passengers to side of road well away from minibus and wait for breakdown services.

We should compile a book with all the RIDDOR scenarios...it would make 'interesting' reading.
Apologies, back to the subject, the person was at work (work time) but strictly speaking they were not doing a work-related activity. So I would count it as a work-related incident i.e. injury at work, but not a RIDDOR if they subsequently trigger the RIDDOR criteria.
