Looking for information or a specialist,

I have a 5T fork lift truck from 2013 with 2600 hours logged, the cage has failed at 3 point.

Fully maintained and inspected

Provider has took the line that it is out of warranty and offered a replacement cage @ £3400.00 plus VAT

We have a full workshop ( we manufacture HGV trailers)

I am looking at repairing the cage and adding in stiffener plates

We have a similar FLT from the same company from 2010 and 3 from 2005 with a completely different (more robust) design of cage.

Need a definitive answer on what test is require to show the repair is fit for purpose, anybody have any information or point me in the right direction, I am getting no help from the original supplier

Kind Regards

Angelo

Hi Angelo,

Do you have design engineers and codified welders? If so They could design a solution and build it to an inspectable standard.

The designers could also look at the original cage design to check that it is suitable, if the newer one has a different design why was it changed?

Have you asked your insurance company or their inspectors? It may be that an in-house solution may not satisfy them.

This company http://www.rolltecsafety.co.uk/index.htm may be able to advise (no connection with them)

Hope it helps a little,

S

God morning SNS

Spoke with our insurer's, to be honest they just want a certificate to show an in date loler test has been carried out.

I would be more comfortable with some sort of weight test, the welds will be NDT tested

Have coded welders

The cage itself is thin walled profiled tube, where as on the older trucks it is a heavy gauge box section.

We loler test our tail lifts and our FLTs, just after guidance on if a weight test is required,

Will give the HSE a call

Kind regards

Angelo
