Hi All,
I have recently completed and achieved my NEBOSH NGC and reached a bit of a crossroads.
I have worked in Health and Safety for the last five years for a manufacturing company, managing their accreditation to OHSAS18001. I have achieved a foundation degree in business management and then went on to top this up with IOSH Managing Safely and my NEBOSH NGC. In terms of my company's viewpoint, they feel I am competent now to continue to manage our health and safety accreditation but in relation to my career, I am unsure of the next step.
I understand there are different paths to take but my question relates to the MSC in Safety, Health and the Environment.
Would I meet the entry requirements having already gained a foundation degree in another subject?
If i undertook this course, would it be worthwhile in relation to my career?
What membership would be achieved in relation to IOSH?
Is this the best course to undertake to further my career in health and safety?
Sorry for the in depth thread. I was just hoping for some advice as feeling slightly confused.
Any replies would be appreciated.
Thanks
James

With regards an MSc, each university will offer different courses and require different entry requirements - but on the whole they usually are the same.
With regards your foundation degree - I suspect this on its own may not be sufficient. I say this as usually for a Safety MSc, the academic requirements would be either a full Undergraduate degree OR a NEBOSH Diploma, with the latter subject to a possible interview to assess suitability.
On my MSc there was one individual who did not have a BSc nor a NEBOSH Dip - but somehow used prior experience and a combination of Foundation type courses to gain entry, through what I believe is the APL or APEL (Accreditation of Prior Learning) Route. I would consult the individual Uni's for comment but I suspect you will be advised to gain further credits to bolster your Foundation degree upto a full degree OR complete the NEBOSH Dip (or equivalent) - that said this is my thoughts based on my MSc course.
Your membership grade would depend on the course taken - my MSc at Salford gave me Grad IOSH status as it was an IOSH accredited degree - however some others are not, and so would probably lead to TechIOSH membership.
From what you have said I would look at doing the NEBOSH Dip or look at making your foundation degree up to a full degree, as this would then allow you to complete the MSc. I went from a BSc in Science to the MSc in Safety and did no NEBOSH Quals - so in some respects you will have a better start with regards safety knowldge and underpinnning by completing the Diploma.
Whatever route you choose - all the best!

Thanks for your response and advice Jamie, it is much appreciated.
I think it will be the NEBOSH Dip especially after recently completing the NGC.
Thanks again
