Hi Guy's,

Happy new Year to you all. I'm wondering if anyone out there can help prevent me from having to reinvent the wheel. I'm desperately looking for a safety balanced scorecard (leading/lagging indicators) on an excel spreadsheet or such like. Can anyone help me out at all?

Blast from the past, balanced scorecard!
I did create a H&S version of the EFQM one for an IOSH publication years ago - but will be on the floppy discs now tiling my shed roof I think. It certainly didn't use Excel - I wonder what EXACTLY you are seeking to do?

The idea of the BS (oops!) was to get away from 'metrics' as such, and manage more by simple objectives, and those would be set across a wide range of organisation (or departmental) criteria. That's not to say no metrics were included, but frankly, after spending quite a lot of time researching the various models, and seeing others (I have found an HR version) I came to the conclusion that this methodology was a diversion for H&S, unless forced down that route by the organisation, (or HR!).

See businessballs.com for links to further reading on BS - the Dti do one which is quite good skip to page 7. None are H&S specific.

If you want to measure H&S performance, you will not be able to get away from some incident numbers - RIDDOR being the 'national' parameter - but there are other, and frankly much better, ways.
