What kind of targets do you think is an acceptable and achievable number to be written into a
new reactive and void maintenance contract to monitor the company's performance over a 3 year period?

Just wondering if anyone has any experience writing these into a contract or a SLA as this is a new procedure we are undertaking?

Hi Leone37. Setting targets for numbers of incidents has been a discussion topic on this forum several times in the past, with a significant body of opinion against the practice. Saying that we will allow X no of people to be killed or maimed is surely against all principles we hold dear.

Perhaps better to allow the contractor to manage their own H&S to good standards without giving them the "license" to hurt people.

And if you are being asked to set your own levels of harm, ask why.

Yes I totally agree - It's a new company I am working for and I have never come across this before, hence the post, like you said we normally allow contractors to manage their own H&S and review at periodic review meetings......

Thanks for your response

I would not write any specific numbers into a contract. For starters, the numbers would/should be quite low and therefore not properly measurable. All that is needed is a caveat to prevent or reduce the severity of accidents to as low as reasonably practicable by good h&s practices - job done.

You also run the risk of the contractors hiding accidents, because they could lose the work
