Hi,
I work in a manufacturing facility and we are often bringing on new processes. A process that I inherited is causing me concern.
It is a coating machine used within a cleanroom, still in testing currently but one of the chemicals has hazard symbol H360, may damage fertility or the unborn child.
We have up to 100 people working in this room and extraction from the machine is very poor, leaving a strong odour almost unbearable to work in.
I have two pregnant employees in this room right now, my opinion is it does not belong in this room and should be in a restricted room with warning signs and the people screened working in it.
Could someone offer advice on this subject, we have carried IH monitoring and awaiting results.

Without knowing more about the chemical and the nature of the operation it is difficult to provide advice. I can understand that you would not wish to provide more information in an open forum. If you send me a PM with contact details I will be happy to get in touch to see if I can help. Chris

From your description it seems fairly clear that the pregnant women should be removed from the area, if only as a precaution until the results of your in-house testing come back.
It sounds like the machine extraction needs to be reviewed as well. Was there a commissioning process carried out and is there a report saying the at the extraction was suitable when the machine was built?
