Experience of high rise modular construction

Does anyone have any first hand experience of managing H&S on this type of work and advice they would be willing to share. In particular any unexpected issues or problems they encountered with regards to the lifting ops, work at height and structural integrity. Thanks in advance

To get the ball rolling, one thing that seems to get overlooked is that any work involving crane lifts should include provision to ensure that the ground the crane is based on has been tested to ensure that it will support the loading. Any work conducted to improve ground bearing characteristics should also be tested. The focus is often on the machine & load, but if the ground fails under your lifting gear...

Not a great amount of experience but if the modules are predominantly timber watch the fire risk during construction.

Yes have worked on such projects. 1. Lifting operations - using what? Mobile crane or tower crane? Either way there will be the need for an Appointed Person Lifting Operations to produce the Lift Plan, and a Crane Co-ordinator to supervise and put the plan into action. The lifting equipment itself; if a mobile will need to be on a suitable mat with ground bearing tests, if a crane ensure that the legs are cast in properly and all bolts are checked along with the slew ring. 2. Working at height, again in what way? Slip forms? tables? Objects falling from height? Rescue? 3. Structural integrity, again in what way?

Thanks but the issues you guys are describing are just general lifting ops, construction issues/considerations. Crane type is yet to be decided and is dependant on space, licensing, oversailing agreements. However as crane installation is a specialist area an H&S generalist would not be inspecting bolts, crane base etc as this would be undertaken during the initial thorough examination by a competant person (probably the installer) prior to the crane being signed off as safe to use. I am thinking more in relation to modular buildings, maintaing fall protection whilst physically guiding the units into place at high level, installation of edge protection and how this is best achieved asap once a unit is in situ. On a structural level any issues they experienced pertaining to integrity of the units after transportation stresses, lifting stresses.
If anyone has any guidance in relation to "modular unit construction specifically" rather than general construction safety issues, I would be grateful .
