Hi All
I am trying to influence an employer to pay IOSH membership fees.
I am using the Management Regulations on the basis of employers appointing competent persons for H&S advice e.g. need to ensure ongoing CPD.
Job Description may state essential CMIOSH or IOSH membership. On the other hand it may not state either essential or desirable!!!!!!
I also think there is cost argument to say IOSH membership offers value for money e.g. access to branch meetings, seminars etc..
To what extent do you think I can take this point ? Have any of you challenged in similar circumstances.
Any advice welcome.
Thanks
Mark

If the FD gets their professional fees as allowable expense and the company is a member of IoD or any other trade organisation it may add to your argument.

However, the main argument as I see it would be to ask whether the company wishes to have a H&S professional on its books or a mere bit-player.

Do you need CHAS or another SSIP? Maybe you can state that these certifications ask for CV's and membership details of IOSH and it benefits the company to have such members on the books.

Is it worth the fight for less than 200 quid? I'm pretty sure you get taxed on it anyway, so you would end up in the self assessment system.

It's worth the IOSH membership fee to avoid having to submit an online tax return

Both my existing & previous company pay mine - you don't get taxed on it. You can, however, claim tax back if you pay it yourself (but that will, of course, mean completing the online annual assessment......)
