Hi,
How long would you keep completed permits to work for?
Thanks
Katie

Anywhere I've ever worked has been at least two years.

Depends on why you have raised the permit in the first place.
At least until the minimum period for any potential civil claim has passed and dependent on the work possibly longer.
So a 30 year old drilling in to ACM probably around seventy years based on current/potential retirement age PLUS.
Well written permits are the instruction and record of how the work was conducted.
Poorly written permits are no more than a list of names, dates and signatures and no detail.

We kept ours for four years.
The underwriters had a little input into the retention times as they considered it reduced their possible exposure to claims if we kept them for longer than three years.

With the technology available today U can easily store them [& other H&S related documentation] forever in the cloud at almost no cost etc. so why not? - and U never know when something may come back to bite U so such storage can be very useful in the future
Insurance companies and similar have their reasons for making comments about storage times and all the reasions are for their future good and not yours
