Hi Is there a requirment for someone who changes a gas cylinder regulator to be trained and certificated? All i can seem to find out that they should be trained and competent, no where can i find the requirment for certification. Would appreciate any feedback

Are you thinking about a tradesman who was taught how to do this as part of their apprenticeship, or someone who has no practical training and competence in any field remotely related?

I am talking about Jo Public who has no trade and is purely a unskilled production worker. There does not seem to be any regulation, other than he must be trained to do the job and competent. I have been told only a certified person can carry out this work, but as I say I cannot find proof of this. As long as our engineering staff give the correct training and they are satisfied he is competent and signed off then that should be enough. I have been informed the HSE do not allowed anyone other than certified persons to do this

OK, that makes things a little clearer. What "certificate" have you been informed that they need? I don't believe that even a "GasSafe" certification covers such an activity. Remember though that members of the public have been changing gas bottles at their homes & on caravans for years, not sure of the accident statistics on that?

Is this question about changing gas cylinders or gas regulators? Either way, I do not know of any certificate for this. However, you gas supplier can give free training in this both areas. If the question is about regulators then more training would be needed to adjust the gas pressure to suit the task/operation of the equipment.
