Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good quality h&s management system for an educational establishment;

Something that can be used multi-site, flexible/bespoke and relatively user friendly.

If you have any information on costs that would be great also.

Many thanks,

Hi,

I suggest you develop your own following HSG 65, shouldn't be to onorous - arrangements, policy & procedure, risk assessments, test & inspection certs and meeting minutes, all divided into different folders - there's no one size fits all, give it a go you may suprise yourself.

Listen to P as he has hit the nail on the head

I have dealth with 100's of educational establishments and 'bought-in' systems are usually, in my personal opinion, poor to say the least & need lots of tuning to get a fit so cost more in the long run

What type of establishment are we talking about and what is your position?

We are a further education College, training apprentices for careers in the engineering and building services industries.

I understand and see the benefits of building my own HSMS, however I would be starting from scratch and consider myself to be relatively inexperienced in the role (trainee h&s officer), hence why I thought it might be best to purchase one initially.

You will come to regret buying in a scheme.
The firms selling them are not charities.

Hi,

With the further info given, get each dept to create their own mini audit, identifying their test and inspection / risk assessment requirements etc. and then compile into the finalised Management System - you don't have to do all the work / research yourself, pass it to those with the competence and this should set you on your way.

I cannot imagine that the college has just fallen from space and everything is new and shiny, so I should imagine most of the documents you need have already been produced. You therefore only need something that can link them / gather them all together.

With just a little effort a spreadsheet can do that. Ie a tab for policies a tab for docs, procedures, RA's, Coshh etc. Just list them all out and set hyperlinks to each document and password protect the whole thing so only you can change and users can look and click on hyperlink.

Easy enough to log review dates against each doc.

If you have an intranet there is no reason it can not be used by multiple sites. I'm not into the Cloud but I guess that works too.

All depends on what you want it to do which you will still have to decide if you buy one in.

Chris
