We have two groups of managers who supervise construction work in our Assets & Facilities buildings. Group 1 are office/building managers (with no construction experience), who engage and supervise contractors (weekly) to carry out low, medium and high risk construction work. Group 2 are managers who work in our A&F Department and on a daily basis, engage and supervise major construction work of varying risk. Can you please suggest what Construction H&S training each group req to manage that site safety. Many thanks

Without hesitation I would recommend the CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course for Managers. Cost for the 5 day course with quality course material should be in the region of £550 per head + vat. The course content and materials will be hugely beneficial to any construction manager. Try www.easybooktraining.co.uk for a list of providers in your area. Jon

I would DIY the course/s yourself as I did for many many years. It should be very good for all parties and it can be tailored to your specific needs and cost much less I have found that bought in courses rarely address the key elements out e.g. how to properly manage [lead by example by always wearing the appropriate PPE] and how to get stuck into staff and contractors that are not working properly such as undertake disciplinary actions on the spot as needed as well as educate initially U need to set a start point to find out just what people do know so as a proper training plan can be formulated and then delievered The above said sometimes companies like the feel good feeling etc. so outsiders are used best of luck

David two good responses there. The benefits from the SMSTS course I found was the role plays when being teamed up with site foremen through to project management you tended to find a broad range of experience . Bob,s way is just as good in some respects if you have the time to set a course like this up. Ta Alex
